There are plenty of cocktail bars in Northbridge, Perth where you can get a drink. Ambassador Bar, however, feels less like somewhere you simply stop by, and more like somewhere you stumble upon and quietly decide to stay.
Tucked into Perth’s nightlife district, Ambassador Bar carries the charm of another era. It is intimate, softly lit, and full of the kind of character that feels increasingly rare: a room built not just for drinking, but for settling in. There is live music in its bones, a cocktail-first approach behind the bar, and now, a new menu that gives the venue a sharper sense of identity.
The latest cocktail list is where Ambassador Bar’s personality really comes into focus. Rather than presenting drinks as a simple collection of ingredients, the menu has been curated around a cast of characters. Each cocktail feels as though it belongs to the same world, with names that nod to diplomacy, secrecy, elegance and quiet mischief.

The Ambassador’s Martini leads the way. Crisp, floral and refined, it feels like the house signature for good reason: polished, composed, and just distinctive enough to leave an impression. The Governor’s Old Fashioned takes a richer path, using clarified rum, banana and honey to create something silky and slow-sipping, with far more thought behind it than the name “Old Fashioned” might suggest.
Elsewhere, the menu moves confidently between bright, playful and elegant. The Scarlet Socialite brings passionfruit and gin into a lively, easy-to-love cocktail, while the Violet Duchess leans floral and delicate, served as a refreshing highball. The State Renegade offers something more rebellious, with tequila, mezcal, citrus and a savoury edge, while the Diplomat’s Demise keeps things lighter with whisky, apple and soda.
Even the dessert-style drinks have been given proper consideration. The Treasurer’s Reserve carries the warmth of banoffee, while the Rose Countess is smooth, floral and chocolatey without feeling heavy-handed.

What makes the menu work is that it never feels like a gimmick. The character names are charming, but the drinks underneath them are clearly doing the real work. There is balance, texture, flavour and a genuine sense of intention behind each choice.
Ambassador Bar is the kind of venue that understands atmosphere is built through details: the lighting, the music, the glassware, the way a drink arrives, and the story it brings with it.
Northbridge has no shortage of bars, but Ambassador Bar offers something more considered. A little theatrical, quietly elegant, and warmly inviting, it is a place that feels like it has been waiting to be discovered.
