Sarah Marie and Bob Tweedie: A Tangle of Musical Threads

Get ready to experience a night of music where anything can happen. Sarah Marie is a Maltese-born vocalist, composer, and interdisciplinary artist, whose life has zig-zagged across Malta, Chile, Boston, New York, and India, and now brings her music to Perth. Her musical approach is all about connection, improvisation, and the in-between spaces where cultures and stories create vibrant sonic tapestries. Embroidered alongside her is local creative-powerhouse Bob Tweedie; one of Perth’s most wildly imaginative pianist-composers, whose fearless playfulness mixes acoustic warmth with electronic curiosity. Their musical threads may have started worlds apart, but when they combine, the result is a kaleidoscope of sound and storytelling.

For the first part of the night, Sarah and Bob will open with a duo set that will merge electronic and acoustic sounds. Using an array of synthesisers and vocal processors, the two will present original works and reimagined tunes, stitched together with open improvisation. This set is sure to be a feast for the adventurous ear.

For the second chapter of the night, the duo becomes a quartet. As highly acclaimed bassist and composer Kate Pass, visits home from New York, her and Sarah Marie continue their collaboration across the globe, after the two first connected in NYC. Kate brings a deep love of global sounds and a warm, earthy, bass tone that transforms the room. The group also teams up with drummer Ryan Daunt, who lifts the music with creative sensitivity, and an expressive touch. With Kate and Ryan on board, this set will explore groove, world-inspired colours, neo soul and jazz textures, and the kind of interplay that only happens when everyone is truly listening.

To finish the evening, the stage will be opening into a welcoming jazz jam, where members from the audience are encouraged to sit in with the band.
